12. Access, trial and subscription
Both apps are free to download. What you get depends on your status, shown in Settings ▸ Subscription ▸ Status.
12.1 The statuses

12.2 The free trial
The trial does not expire in calendar days. It limits running time:
- 45 minutes per day, counted while the counters run, accumulated across runs within a day, and reset on the next calendar day.
- While running, a panel periodically shows the time remaining.
- When it is used up, the run is stopped, and saved if auto-save is on, and the app offers the upgrade.
Everything else works on the trial: all four modes, building and following roadbooks, voice, Flic, tracks, export and iCloud.
⚠️ 45 minutes is enough to evaluate the app. It is not enough for a rally. Settle your access before the event.
12.3 Legacy customers
If you bought either app before version 4.0, you keep what you paid for: lifetime access, with no subscription and no time limit. Nothing you had has been taken away.
New features are not part of that promise. Your purchase covers the app you bought. Stage mode, added since, is available to you, but a feature added in the future may need the Lifetime Full Access Pass.
Roadbook mode already needs it. It is unlocked with a one-off, discounted Lifetime Full Access Pass. Until then, selecting Roadbook mode shows the upgrade offer instead of switching. You can still build and explore roadbooks: tap Settings ▸ Mode ▸ Roadbooks, and the same offer has a Roadbook button that opens the editor.
If you bought 3pRally on iPhone
3pRally sells nothing in app, so the pass lives in 3pRally Pro, but you do not have to prove anything to claim it. Install 3pRally Pro alongside 3pRally and it recognises your original purchase by itself, then offers you the discounted upgrade instead of the full price. Subscriptions are not offered to you at all.
- Download 3pRally Pro
- Launch it, with 3pRally still installed
- Go to Settings
- Tap Get Full Access, under Subscription
- Follow the instructions
⚠️ Keep 3pRally installed until the upgrade is done. The two apps recognise each other through a shared container on the device, so this works when both are installed on the same iPhone. Removing 3pRally first can leave Pro unable to see the original purchase.
If instead you bought 3pRally Pro itself before 4.0, there is nothing to do: Apple tells the app which version you originally bought, so it recognises you wherever you sign in.
12.4 Buying
Settings ▸ Subscription, in 3pRally Pro, opens the card that shows what suits your situation. The row is called Get Full Access until you own something:
- Subscriptions, monthly, three-month or yearly, with the saving against the monthly price shown, and cancellation any time.
- The Lifetime Full Access Pass, a single payment covering everything, including future features.
If you already subscribe it suggests the better-value option rather than selling you the same thing twice. If you are on the yearly plan it notes that upgrading to Lifetime is an additional purchase, because Apple does not refund the unused part of a yearly plan.
12.5 Restoring purchases
Restore Purchases re-checks your Apple ID for a previous paid purchase, an active subscription, or a Lifetime Pass.
- It can take a moment.
- In 3pRally Pro, once a restore completes, whether or not it found anything, the button locks for 24 hours. One that fails with an error can be tried again, up to three times, before it asks you to come back later. 3pRally applies no limit.
- If there is nothing to restore, it says so, and it says so plainly rather than reporting a success.
Use it after reinstalling, on a new device, or if the app has fallen back to the trial unexpectedly.
12.6 If access changes underneath you
Two situations drop you back to the trial, each with an explanation:
- Subscription expired.
- The Lifetime Pass could not be confirmed, which can happen if it was refunded or revoked. If you think that is wrong, tap See Options and then Restore Purchases.
12.7 Cancelling
Cancelling happens in iOS, not in the app:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap your Apple ID at the top.
- Select Subscriptions.
- Tap Cancel Subscription.
A cancelled subscription runs to the end of the period you paid for. The app shows the expiry date and notes that it will not renew.
