14. Glossary

App terms

Advanced. The default dashboard: a dense four-up grid of readouts with compact in-drive buttons.

Auto (row advance). A boundary the odometer crosses by itself, at the distance the roadbook gives. The opposite of tap.

Base time. In Open Road, the schedule derived from a part's base speed, or failing that its maximum cap: distance divided by the base speed, summed sector by sector. It is a time you are asked to meet, not a floor you must stay above. Finishing under it earns nothing, which is why the card greens on base and only blues early.

CAST. Constant Average Speed Time. A part driven at a prescribed average, whose ideal time is distance divided by that speed. The competitive row of a Regularity discipline.

Classic. The two-big-counters dashboard, where tapping a readout promotes it.

Control. A place the organiser measures you: a time control, a test, a start or a finish. The opposite of a reference.

Discipline. A property of the runnable part of a roadbook (Regularity, Special Stage, Open Road, Transit) that decides which row types it may hold and how the dashboard behaves.

Ghost, or live gap to best. In Stage mode, how far ahead or behind your best run of the day you are at the same point on the course.

Ideal time. The time you should have taken, for the distance covered so far, at the prescribed speed. The dashboard pill shows the live difference against your actual time.

Independent average. An average you arm and end yourself, ignoring control crossings.

Look-ahead, or coming next. The brief preview of the next real boundary as you approach it.

MAX. A speed ceiling on a part. Over it, the speed number turns red with a beep or a spoken "over max". It is never the subject of the pace tip.

Official time. The organiser's clock. You enter an offset, and the app's clock, countdown and auto-start follow it.

Open Road. A discipline, and its row type, for open-road racing: a target average with optional posted caps.

Partial. Since the last crossing. Total. Since go.

Puck. The dashboard button you press at a boundary, which tells you what it is about to do.

Quick restart. Reset everything and start again, without a separate stop.

Reference. A waypoint you tick off along the way. Your trip counter zeroes at it, but your average keeps running across it. Derived, not authored: a row that is not a control and changes nothing you are paced on.

Regressive. Counting down to the end of a part or a route, instead of up.

Roadbook. The top-level unit: one event, shareable and syncable as a .3prbk file.

Roadbook format profile. The units, precision and time notation a particular roadbook is printed in. Display and entry only, since the data is stored canonically. The two halves do not reach equally far: its decimals follow the roadbook onto every screen including the driving one, while units follow your car, so the driving screen stays on your Settings ▸ Units & Format choice. See 5.10.

Row. One line of a roadbook: a distance plus a rule. What the app calls the road it covers depends on your Segment name setting.

Segment name. The setting that chooses the vocabulary. A picker with three options, each shown as the pair it sets: section · stage, leg · section, stage · leg. The same three words fill both roles depending on the choice, rather than forming one fixed hierarchy, so it is the pair that identifies a choice, not the first word alone.

Session. In Stage mode, the runs the app infers belong together: same day, starting within 500 m, and covering about the same distance, within 15% of the longer run.

Special. A discipline, and its row type, for flat-out timed running where fastest elapsed time wins and there is no speed to hold.

Split. A time banked by marking a crossing in Stage mode, or in a Special Stage part.

Stage. Three different things, told apart by context: the middle level of a roadbook and the runnable unit; one of the four dashboard modes; and part of two of the three Segment-name vocabularies (section · stage and stage · leg).

Target Avg. A Regularity row that paces an average like CAST, with an optional MAX ceiling.

Tech speed. A roadbook-wide never-exceed ceiling for Open Road, matching a class limit. The effective ceiling is the lower of it and the row's own cap.

Transit. A non-competitive connecting part, or a whole runnable part made of them.

Zero the odometer. A row flag that sets the distance reading back to zero at that control, while time, schedule and position carry on. Not a restart.

Rally terms

Liaison. The untimed public-road transfer between competitive parts. Modelled as Transit, and it never scores: only penalties do.

Precision trial. A very short timed exercise inside a regularity event. Author it as CAST or Target Avg, never as a Special.

Regularity. The European name for the discipline where you hold prescribed averages and are scored on timing accuracy rather than speed. The same discipline as TSD.

Special stage. In stage rallying, a closed competitive section where fastest elapsed time wins.

TSD. Time-Speed-Distance. The US name for regularity.

Open-road racing. Events scored on hitting a target average over a long section, with posted speed zones inside it.

Tripmaster. A rally odometer, the instrument this app replaces. 3pRally is the time-speed-distance sibling of 3pMaster, the off-road tripmaster.
